Local authorities in Vietnam have located the lifeless body of a ten-year-old boy 21 days after he was trapped in a 35-meter-deep concrete shaft in the southern province of Dong Thap, in the Mekong River Delta region.
At 1.20 a.m., two rescuers from Dong Thap Police, equipped with oxygen, have descended more than 25 meters deep into a cage of iron pipes surrounding a concrete pillar, where the child was stuck, as detailed by ‘VN Express’.
With the help of specialized equipment to bring the body to the surface–necessary due to the narrowness of the wall–and after much hardship, the rescue of the body was completed after almost two hours of execution.
The coffin of the boy, Hao Nam, has been taken to his home in a car for burial, according to the newspaper.
Doan Tan Buu, vice-president of Dong Thap province, said that after 21 days, the rescue of Hao Nam’s body had been completed thanks to the coordination of professional forces and expert groups, as well as ministries and agencies.
«The rescue took a long time due to the surrounding soil, in an enclosed environment. (In addition) the decomposition process occurred more slowly than usual, so the minor’s body was brought up intact, brought back for burial in accordance with the family’s wishes,» Buu related.
The minor was collecting scrap metal near a bridge under construction together with three friends in Thanh Bình district. According to the authorities’ hypothesis, the boy tripped and fell, getting stuck in the well.
