Former senator Gustavo Petro has confirmed that he will attend the appointments made by the Colombian Attorney General’s Office and the Colombian Prosecutor General’s Office to provide more information about the alleged network of sexual exploitation of women within the Congress, but conditions the delivery of evidence in exchange for ensuring the safety of the victims.

«They want to interview me, of course I will go on Monday and Tuesday to the appointments with the Prosecutor’s Office and the Attorney General’s Office virtually because I am out of the country. I will provide the information I have as long as it does not affect the integrity of the victims,» he wrote on his Twitter account.

Along these lines, Bolívar, who until 2022 had been a member of the Movimiento Alternativo Indígena y Social (MAIS), has celebrated «the interest» that his denunciation has awakened at a national level since it puts pressure on the aggressors to stop while the investigations advance.

«Women have to live in a society where their dignity is respected, they deserve to live without fear and should be valued for their abilities talents and skills,» emphasized Bolívar, who has used her social networks to recall that she has been denouncing this situation since 2018.

However, he has regretted that he has not had an echo until now, after a few days ago he denounced these alleged aggressions during an interview for the magazine ‘Semana’. In it, she assured that women were hired for administrative work, but then ended up being sexually assaulted.

Bolivar has again insisted that if he has not gone to the Prosecutor’s Office after learning the facts is because the victims themselves asked him not to do so. «They did not authorize me to give their names. Without witnesses it is very difficult,» he argued.

«They asked me for absolute confidentiality because of the seriousness of the facts and the risk they run before their victimizers who hold power. Faced with the impossibility of giving the names of the women who experienced this violence, I had to postpone my duty to bring this case to justice», he explained.

As a consequence of these declarations, the ethics commission of the Congress has opened its own investigation for which they expect to have not only Bolivar’s version, but also the rest of the people involved.
