Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen has urged China to resume bilateral talks with her country to maintain stability in the region.
«War is never an option to solve a problem,» Tsai has said in her New Year’s address, Bloomberg reports.
The Taiwanese president has pointed out that only through «dialogue and collaboration» will it be possible to bring «security and happiness» to more people.
Tsai also reminded Beijing that it is a «common responsibility» for the countries to maintain stability in the region.
In addition, the Taiwanese president has offered to help China in the face of the increase in coronavirus cases.
Taiwan is an autonomous democracy and has considered itself independent since the 1940s. Beijing rejects official contacts between countries and Taiwan, as it considers the democratic island republic part of China.
