The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, attended the White House on Thursday to participate in the first state dinner hosted by Joe Biden since he became President of the United States.
The dinner, which was attended by prominent celebrities, politicians and businessmen, was the culmination of this week’s state visit, during which Macron and Biden have sought ways to extol the role of NATO in the face of the challenges of Russia and China and in which they have tried to solve some of their disagreements.
«Long live France and God bless America,» Biden said in his toast, as the nearly 300 guests clinked their glasses, as reported by ‘The Washington Post’.
«Long live the United States, long live France and long live the friendship between two countries,» Macron remarked in French, ending in English with, «Cheers. Thank you!»
In a message on the social network Twitter, the US president has assured that he and his wife, Jill Biden, are honored to have welcomed Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron to the first state dinner as president and first lady.
Biden has welcomed celebrating a friendship defined «by the greatest of causes.» «Democracy, freedom, equality and opportunity,» he added.
