Russian President Vladimir Putin has cited as a «priority» avoiding any possible shelling from Ukraine against Russian territory, at a meeting in which he assured that residents of areas near the border have been living in a «difficult» situation for almost a year.
Putin has led a meeting focused on the recovery of these areas, where «many» people have lost their homes or have suffered cuts in water or electricity supply, a situation that is also repeated in Ukraine precisely because of the attacks perpetrated by Russia.
The president has advocated restoring this damage in regions such as Belgorod, Bryansk and Kursk, but at the same time called for enhancing prevention. «Of course, the priority is to eliminate the possibility of shelling, but that is up to the Ministry of Defense,» he said, according to official news agencies.
Both Putin and other high-ranking Russian officials have justified in the last year the offensive on the neighboring country in the need to eliminate threats derived from its territory, which they consider increased by Kiev’s rapprochement with Western blocs such as NATO.
