UK Defense Minister Ben Wallace has insisted that sending fighter jets to Ukraine «would not be the right approach,» although he cautioned that London has not yet made a firm decision.
«I’ve been at this for a while. And I’ve learned two things: never take anything for granted and never rule anything out,» Minister Wallace told the media, as reported by the British television network Sky News.
Thus, Wallace remarked that the conflict in Ukraine will be marked this year by the capacity of the Ukrainian authorities to get the Western powers to send to Kiev part of their armament, more modern than the Ukrainian one, to face the Russian offensive.
These words of the British defense minister come in response to statements by former Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who on Wednesday urged London to supply fighter jets to Ukraine.
Germany last week unblocked the delivery of Leopard tanks to Ukraine by third countries with such armored vehicles in its possession, while the United States confirmed the supply of some thirty Abrams battle tanks.
Following this, the Ukrainian authorities have now put the focus of their demands on Western fighter jets, which they consider necessary to protect themselves from Russian air raids and bombardments.
