Iranian and Saudi Arabian officials will meet again in the near future in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, to bring new positions closer after the resumption of diplomatic relations earlier this year, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohamed Shia al Sudani has confirmed.
In an interview with France 24, Al Sudani confirmed that «in the coming weeks a new meeting will be organized in Baghdad», in what would be the sixth meeting between the two regional enemies.
The two countries held several rounds of talks last year with the aim of normalizing relations and avoiding disputes.
Tehran and Riyadh, it should be recalled, broke off diplomatic relations in 2016 following an attack on Saudi missions in Iran by protesters calling to stop the execution of Shiite cleric Nimr al-Nimr.
Iranian Foreign Minister Hosein Amirabdolahian even ventured in mid-January the possibility of a reopening of the Embassies of the two countries.
