Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaidó assured Thursday at a press conference that during his term as head of the Venezuelan National Assembly in 2015, the total budget «did not reach» $150 million.
«The budget unanimously approved by the National Assembly did not reach 150 million,» Guaidó explained in a press conference broadcast by VPItv channel, adding that «all that was used of public funds» for the «defense of democracy» in four years is the annual budget of a single municipality.
In this sense, Guaidó has stressed, in a darkened room in front of the press, that 50 percent of the budget was used for social aid, while the rest went to the subsistence of the 2015 National Assembly as a body.
Likewise, during his press conference, the Venezuelan oppositionist has informed that the money was withdrawn from an account in the United States with a total balance of 300 million dollars, as reported by Bloomberg’s Latin America and Caribbean channel.
Much of the opposition defended the end of Guaidó’s «interim government», whose mandate ended in December after a favorable vote by the Assembly, as an effort to restore democracy in Venezuela.
