Thousands of people gathered on Wednesday at the Plaza de Bolivar in Colombia’s capital, Bogota, to protest against the reforms of Gustavo Petro’s government, just one day after pro-government demonstrations in different parts of the country.
The protests, called ‘March for your freedom’, have been called by different opposition groups in cities such as Medellin, Bucaramanga, Cali or Barranquilla, among others, in addition to the capital, as reported by the newspaper ‘El Tiempo’.
The National Police Service has assured that some 28,000 people will participate in at least 14 cities and 22 departments. «Yesterday something similar happened,» police chief Tito Castellanos told RCN.
Castellanos already specified on Tuesday that up to 30,000 troops have been deployed in a measure to guarantee order and security during the protests called this week both for and against Petro.
