
The Chilean government has arrested 28 people for their alleged involvement in the forest fires that are ravaging the center and south of the country and have left 24 people dead, all while firefighters continue firefighting operations.
This has been reported by the Undersecretary of the Interior, Manuel Monsalve, who has detailed that, so far, the fire has devastated an area of 367,000 hectares of vegetation between the regions of Ñuble, Biobío and La Araucanía, as reported by ‘Emol’.
«We have 323 fires in the country, 90 are in combat. 343,000 hectares that have been consumed by the fires,» Monsalve related after a meeting of the Disaster Risk Management Committee (COGRID).
Meanwhile, the Chilean authorities have advanced during the night of this Thursday the alert and climatological alarm for temperatures, installed for several days in the country, will be lowered.
«This allows us to say that on Saturday and Sunday temperatures will return to normal summer temperatures,» insisted the Chilean Undersecretary of the Interior.
On Wednesday, the Chilean government declared a curfew in the affected regions in order to «guarantee the safety of the families affected by the emergency».
