The Latvian State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) on Tuesday confirmed a fire at the factory of the U.S. company Edge Autonomy, which specializes in drone manufacturing and is a supplier to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to the authorities, the fire broke out in the afternoon at the factory located in the town of Marupe, on the outskirts of the Latvian capital, Riga, and two people were confirmed injured in the incident, according to ‘Diena’.
Representatives of the medical services have confirmed that at least two people had to be taken to hospital, while a third was treated at the scene. The incident is now under police investigation.
Edge Autonomy’s deputy director, Janis Vilmanis, confirmed that the fire caused severe damage to the factory, although the exact extent of the damage cannot be determined at this stage.
Edge Autonomy specializes in manufacturing drones that are sold to government and commercial customers in about 70 countries, including the Ukrainian Army, according to the Latvian press.
