South Korean authorities detected over the weekend in their airspace an alleged North Korean balloon intended for weather surveillance, although Seoul did not activate any kind of alert as it considered that it did not pose any risk.
The balloon in question, two meters long, was detected on Sunday. According to official sources quoted by the Yonhap news agency, it flew over South Korean territory for a few hours before crossing the border back into North Korea.
The South Korean authorities have not detected any evidence of a possible espionage attempt, contrary to what the U.S. government has claimed in recent days to justify the shooting down of a Chinese balloon.
In the case of the North Korean balloon, the Armed Forces of the neighboring country did not activate any kind of military activity, as could be the takeoff of aircraft.
