German railway company Deutsche Bahn reported Friday that it has had to suspend train service on one of the main rail lines in the southwest of the country after finding a World War II bomb.
All rail traffic on the line connecting Karlsruhe to Basel has had to be suspended, which also includes intercity train services. Authorities have made several bus lines available to passengers as the situation is being analyzed.
The company has indicated that the device is about 80 centimeters long, although it has not clarified whether the bomb could be detonated at the site of its discovery and whether the area will have to be evacuated.
Police explained that the bomb was found during construction work on a bridge near the town of Rastatt.
