Two Spanish women with several minors in their care and who had allegedly married jihadists have arrived last night in Spain from refugee camps in Syria, police sources have confirmed to Europa Press.
They are Yolanda Martinez, who has 4 children, and Luna Fernandez, who arrived in Spain with 9 children. They are in police custody awaiting to be handed over to the National Court.
There is a third wife of a jihadist who has not been located and therefore has not been returned by the Spanish authorities.
An official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs visited before the summer Spanish women linked to Islamic State who remain in refugee camps in northern Syria in order to establish the conditions for their eventual repatriation to Spain, as confirmed to Europa Press by diplomatic sources.
Said official went to the camps of Al Hol and Al Roj to be able to «meet with the Spanish citizens who were there» and «establish the conditions to proceed with the repatriation, once the security conditions for this are met».
In September 2019, the Audiencia Nacional issued international arrest warrants against four women — three Spanish and one Moroccan — who were in Syria, a country to which they traveled to enlist in the ranks of the Islamic State and who had expressed their willingness to return to Spain. These women had 17 minors in their care at that time.
