South Korean police have detained 24 activists for the rights of people with motor disabilities following a protest action in the Seoul subway during rush hour that caused service delays.
Solidarity Against Disability Discrimination (SCDD) has held several rallies at several major subway stations in the capital to demand greater investment to protect people with disabilities.
The activists, who were in wheelchairs, were getting on and off the station carriages to cause delays at the height of rush hour. «Officers from Namdaemun police station are investigating 29 SCDD activists and 24 have been sent to the prosecutor’s office,» a police official was quoted as saying by Yonhap news agency.
They are charged with crimes of obstructing traffic and affecting the operation of the Seoul subway. Five other activists could be referred to the Public Prosecutor’s Office in the near future.
