The former president of Bolivia Evo Morales (2006-2019) has regretted that the Peruvian authorities «follow the steps» of the «de facto government» of Bolivia, presided by Jeanine Áñez, who led the country when he resigned under pressure from the opposition and part of the Armed Forces due to possible irregularities.
Morales has denounced in his social networks that the new Peruvian Executive has taken the example of that Bolivian Executive that, besides «massacring» the population, «attacked friendly countries for defending democracy».
Finally, the former president concluded his Twitter post with a clear but concise slogan: «Repression encourages rebellion».
Peru has been the scene of political instability since the beginning of the mandate of former president Pedro Castillo, who was finally dismissed and arrested at the beginning of the month after announcing the dissolution of Parliament and the implementation of an emergency government.
That decision hardly gained any support, with the result that the president was arrested by the Public Prosecutor’s Office and accused by Peruvian authorities of trying to carry out a sort of «coup d’état». The population has taken to the streets to protest the arrest of the former president and the response of the authorities has already claimed more than twenty lives.
Thus, Morales has compared the situation in Peru with what happened in Bolivia at the end of 2019, when he was forced to leave office due to pressure from the opposition and part of the Armed Forces, which did not recognize the electoral results after the Organization of American States (OAS) detected possible irregularities.
His resignation opened the way for Añez to ascend to the Presidency of the country, something which led to massive protests in the South American nation which were also strongly repressed by the security forces.
