Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dimitro Kuleba has counted a total of 17 embassies in Europe that have received letters containing explosives or packages with body parts of some animals, mainly cow and pig eyes.
«I am tempted to say (or) name Russia right away, because first of all you have to answer the question, who benefits,» Kuleba said during an interview with CNN, adding that either Russia is «directly responsible» for these attacks or the person responsible «sympathizes with the Russian cause and tries to spread fear.»
«It all started with an explosion at the Ukrainian embassy in Spain (in Madrid),» said the Ukrainian foreign minister, after which he said that «what followed this explosion was more bizarre and I would even say sick.»
In this sense, he has explained that, although the final conclusions will be of the investigators, «these two options make sense». «This is how they (the Russians) are trying to fight while they are losing the real diplomatic battles one after the other,» he has assured.
Kuleba has previously said there is reason to believe there is «a well-planned campaign of terror and intimidation against Ukrainian embassies and consulates.» «Unable to stop Ukraine on the diplomatic front they are trying to intimidate us,» he has sentenced.
The Ukrainian government has indicated that such packages have arrived at the country’s embassies in Hungary, the Netherlands, Poland, Croatia and Italy, although suspicious shipments have also been recorded at the country’s consulates in Poland, the Czech Republic and Italy.
