The Russian authorities on Wednesday denied having attacked Kiev over the past day, as denounced by the Ukrainian government, and again rejected their involvement in the fall of a projectile on Polish soil that has left two dead.
The spokesman of the Russian Defense Ministry, Igor Konashenkov, has indicated that the Russian Army «has not been involved in the launching of missiles against Kiev during the attacks perpetrated» throughout Tuesday, according to the Interfax news agency.
«During the massive attacks on November 15 with high-precision weapons, not a single projectile was launched against targets in the city of Kiev,» he assured, despite the fact that the mayor of the city, Vitali Klitschko, had denounced that several houses had been hit by the missiles.
According to Konashenkov, however, all the destruction «shown by the Kiev regime in residential areas of the Ukrainian capital are a direct consequence of the fall of missiles launched by its own air defense systems».
The Defense Ministry has also rejected Moscow’s involvement in Tuesday evening’s explosion on Polish territory and called on Warsaw to exercise restraint in dealing with the matter and launching possible accusations.
In a statement, the Ministry also warned that statements about «Russian missiles» falling in Poland are «a deliberate provocation aimed at increasing tension».
In this regard, it has clarified that the missile debris points to a Ukrainian projectile belonging to the Ukrainian Air Force’s S-300 anti-aircraft defense system. «Photographs of the wreckage found in Przewoduv have allowed Russian experts to identify without a doubt the military elements belonging to a Ukrainian S-300 guided defense system,» he pointed out.
