The Government of Spain has strongly condemned the attack against a mosque in Peshawar (Pakistan) that has left more than 59 dead and around 150 wounded this Monday, while expressing its support to the Executive of the country in its fight against terrorism and condolences to the families of the victims.
«The Government of Spain conveys its condolences to the families of the deceased and to all the victims and wishes a speedy and full recovery to the injured. Spain reiterates its support to the Government of Pakistan in its fight against terrorism and reaffirms its commitment to peace and security in that country,» reads a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, headed by José Manuel Albares.
More than 59 people have been killed and around 150 injured in a suicide attack perpetrated on Monday by Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), known as the Pakistani Taliban, inside a mosque in the Pakistani city of Peshawar, capital of the province of Jiber Pakhtunkhwa (north).
Specifically, medical sources quoted by the newspaper ‘Dawn’ speak of this death toll, although it is not ruled out that the figure may increase, due to the seriousness of some of the wounded and to the fact that there are still people buried under the rubble of the building.
Among the dead is the imam of the Sahibzada Nurulamin mosque, as confirmed by the police. The suicide bomber had been in the front row during a prayer in the mosque before setting off the explosive charge he was carrying, after which the TTP issued a statement on its propaganda channels claiming he was a member of the group.
