French President Emmanuel Macron has assured Monday, on the eve of a new general strike against the delay of the retirement age, that the pension reform is «fundamental» for France compared to the rest of Europe.
«This reform is fundamental when we compare ourselves in Europe and to save our distribution system» of pensions, Macron has specified from The Hague at a press conference alongside the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Mark Rutte, as reported by TF1 Info.
Asked about the words of French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne, who said over the weekend that the plan to raise the minimum retirement age to 64 is «non-negotiable», Macron said he said it «with good reasons» behind it.
The French government has prepared a device of 11,000 police and gendarmes to guard the mobilizations called for this Tuesday by the unions in protest against the measure that aims to raise the retirement age from the current 62 to 64, gradually and until 2023, until it settles.
