The European Commission on Tuesday launched a program to train workers and young people in skills related to the space sector, in particular the latest innovations in data, services and applications.
The initiative aims to foster collaboration between the space industry and academia, to attract young professionals and develop new and existing regional projects, and to contribute to other space training programs.
This new partnership complements the existing aerospace and defense partnership, the European executive explained in a statement, recalling that the space economy generated almost 40 billion euros in Europe in 2021 and is a growing sector, with the idea that it will reach 80 billion by 2030.
»This initiative will reinforce Europe’s leadership in the space sector. It will ensure the resilience and competitiveness of this vibrant sector that serves numerous Union policy priorities and a wide range of industrial needs,» assessed the European Commissioner for the Internal Market, Thierry Breton.
