Kuwait’s Prime Minister Ahmed Nauaf al Ahmed al Sabah, eldest son of Amir Nauaf al Ahmed al Sabah, resigned from his cabinet on Monday after disputes with the opposition-led parliament.
The country’s Council of Ministers handed the resignation letter to Crown Prince Mishal al-Ahmed al-Jaber al-Saba, citing a «deadlock» on several issues during the legislative assembly.
«The minister has expressed his confidence in the wisdom of His Highness Sheikh Mishal to take the necessary measures in line with the highest priorities of the National Assembly,» reads the missive, picked up by KUNA news agency.
The Kuwaiti premier was sworn into office in October together with his new Executive after the elections of September 29 with the intention of resolving the latest clash between the Executive and the House, dissolved days before by order of the crown prince after denouncing «internal political rifts for personal interests».
This tug-of-war is yet another episode of the usual tension between the Kuwaiti executive and legislature in a country that has granted Parliament more important powers than other of its neighbors.
