Peru’s Minister of Defense, Jorge Chavez, has made an appeal this Sunday to establish humanitarian aid corridors in several regions of the country that have been affected by road blockades, following protests against the government of President Dina Boluarte.

The Minister of Defense has specified that these corridors will have the objective of supplying basic necessities to the population and thus avoid a food or medicine shortage crisis.

«This is an articulated and joint work due to the interruption of roads that takes place in Madre de Dios, and it is necessary to establish a humanitarian aid corridor to satisfy the demands of the population», confirmed Chávez.

In addition to the Peruvian department of Madre de Dios, the minister stressed the need to formalize these corridors in Puerto Maldonado, capital of the aforementioned region, as well as in Puno, Cusco and Arequipa, cities whose roads have been blocked by the protests.

These statements were made prior to the shipment of more than 13 tons of goods, including water treatment supplies, food and medicines, by the Peruvian Air Force (FAP) to the Madre de Dios region.

The Minister of Defense confirmed that this operation, carried out jointly with the Ministries of Housing, Health and Women’s Affairs, will guarantee «the health of our nation», while appealing to dialogue as the only possible way to reach an agreement with the demonstrators.

«The only solution is dialogue, in an environment of peace for the well being of each one of our populations and citizens», affirmed Chavez as reported by the Peruvian news agency Andina.
