The Brazilian Supreme Court (TSF) has decided this Friday to keep 942 people in jail in relation to their participation in the assault on the headquarters of the three branches of government, in Brasília, last January 8.

The judge Alexandre de Moraes adopted the decision after having concluded the analysis of the situation of the 1,406 people who were still in detention. Of these, 464 have been provisionally released, although they will have to comply with certain precautionary measures, reported the newspaper ‘O Globo’.

The 942 people who have not been released have had their flagrant detention converted into pretrial detention, which has no set time limit for release.

According to the information released by Moraes’ office on the people who will continue to be detained, the judge has considered that there are indications that they committed crimes of terrorist acts, criminal association, violent abolition of the democratic rule of law, attempted coup d’état, as well as threat, persecution or incitement to crime.

On the other hand, there is no indication that the released inmates have committed acts of violence, property invasion or depredation of real estate. However, they must comply with a series of measures such as night and weekend house confinement, the use of electronic anklets, as well as the suspension of any possession of weapons.

They will not be allowed to leave the country and will not be allowed to use social networks to communicate with the other suspects, among other measures, according to the newspaper.
