Brazilian Supreme Court Judge Alexandre de Moraes has set aside for 90 days the governor of Brasília, Ianeis Rocha, for allegedly having been privy to the assault on institutions by Bolsonaro’s supporters.
Moraes has made this decision during the early hours of Monday (local time), following the request of a senator–Randolfe Rodrigues–and of the Attorney General’s Office, considering that the demonstrators had the approval of the government of Brasilia to carry out the acts, as reported by G1.
«The violent escalation of criminal acts has resulted in the invasion of the buildings of the Planalto Palace, the National Congress and the Federal Supreme Court, with depredation of public property, as was widely reported by the national press,» said the magistrate.
«(These) circumstances could only occur with the consent, and even the effective participation of the competent authorities in matters of public security and intelligence, since the organization of the alleged demonstrations was a notorious fact, which was disseminated by the Brazilian media,» he added.
He also pointed out that the evidence against the governor is that the criminals were escorted by the security forces to the crime scene, that the police did not show resistance given the seriousness of the situation, and that some of the personnel deployed did not comply with the body’s own rules.
Moraes has referred to the fact that some agents have recorded themselves, in what would appear to be a joking tone, witnessing the criminal acts. To this, the judge adds that the security secretary, Anderson Torres, should not have been exonerated from his position at a time when the assault was still going on.
Hours before, the magistrate assured that «the judiciary would not be absent in Brazil», since «the despicable terrorist attacks against democracy and institutions would be held accountable».
After this, Moraes pointed out those who would have financed the acts, as well as the instigators and members of the government who would have participated in any way «in the illicit realization of anti-democratic acts».
