The Armed Forces of China, Russia and Iran will conduct naval maneuvers in the Gulf of Oman between Wednesday and Sunday, the Chinese Defense Ministry has announced, adding that »other countries» will also participate in the maneuvers.

»The naval forces of China, Iran and Russia and other countries will conduct the ‘Maritime Security Belt’ naval exercises in the Gulf of Oman from March 15 to 19,» it said in a brief statement posted on its website.

Thus, it has stated that these maneuvers derive from those previously carried out between these three countries in 2019 and 2022, before specifying that Beijing has sent to them the destroyer ‘Nanning’. »This exercise will help deepen practical cooperation between the navies of the participating countries,» he said.

China’s Ministry of Defense has further noted that the maneuvers »demonstrate the willingness and ability to jointly maintain maritime security and actively build a community for a shared future at sea, as well as inject positive energy into regional peace and stability.

China and Russia conducted joint naval maneuvers with South Africa in February, the second such exercises after those held in 2019 in Cape Town. South Africa, one of the countries on the African continent that has declined to take a position on the Russian invasion of Ukraine, assumed in December 2022 the rotating presidency of the group known as BRICS, also composed of Brazil, Russia, India and China.
