At least seven people have been killed, including a military officer, during a clash on Thursday night between the Mexican Army and a group of armed civilians in the municipality of Villa de Ramos, in the state of San Luis Potosi, in the center of the country.
The San Luis Potosi Public Security Secretariat has confirmed the death of six alleged criminals. The confrontation took place after a group of armed men assaulted an Army patrol that was driving through the Dulce Grande community in this municipality, reports the newspaper ‘El Universal’.
Following the operation, Mexican authorities have seized the weapons and vehicles used by the assailants, whose identity is still unknown, as well as the criminal organization to which they may belong.
However, the region is a strategic zone disputed by several drug cartels, including the Gulf and Jalisco New Generation (CJNG).
