The Ukrainian government has assured that next February 24, the one-year anniversary of the Russian invasion of the country, different institutions and countries will announce new sanctions against Russia.
«There will be new sanctions on February 24. They will be announced in different countries, in different institutions. This will also be part of this sign of unity for victory,» Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dimitro Kuleba has assured in an interview with Radio Free Europe.
The head of the Ukrainian diplomacy has detailed that on the day of the first anniversary of the beginning of the war, events will take place in Kiev, at the UN headquarters as well as in other capitals of the world, where «a very clear signal» will be sent to the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, to stop the war.
«At the UN, in Kiev, in many other capitals of the world, various events will take place that will send a very clear signal to President Putin: if you, Putin, are playing at exhaustion and think that time is on your side, then you are deeply mistaken,» Kuleba has related.
In this regard, he recalled that at the end of 2022 Ukraine started «the path» to try to expel Russia from the UN Security Council, a milestone that, according to Kuleba himself, «will not be quick» because it is about restarting a global institution.
«The exclusion itself, of course, will take time. And for that, a number of factors must coincide. But for Russia, the achievement of the first goal, delegitimization, will be a terrible international blow,» the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry emphasized to the above-mentioned broadcaster.
He also referred to the visit of U.S. President Joe Biden to Poland on the eve of the anniversary, saying that «it is a component of the commemoration of this tragic anniversary».
«It is very important that President (Joe) Biden is in Europe. Even more so in Poland, a country that plays an extremely important role in providing a second armed front for Ukraine,» he stressed.
