NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg warned on Monday that Russian President Vladimir Putin is not willing to sit down to negotiate a peaceful solution to the war in Ukraine, stressing that he still has ambitions to control the neighboring country and for that he is ready to take heavy casualties in his offensive in the Donbas region.

«We see no signs that Putin is ready for peace or to negotiate anything that respects the sovereignty and integrity of Ukraine,» the former Norwegian prime minister said at a press conference ahead of a meeting of defense ministers on Tuesday and Wednesday in Brussels.

On the other hand, the Allied Secretary General insisted that Moscow is continuing with its military plans to control Ukraine and stated that the Russian army is already engaged in a new offensive, mobilizing thousands of troops in eastern Ukraine, for which it is ready to assume a high price in human lives.

«What they lack in quality they make up for in quantity. Their equipment and training is not at the same level as Ukraine’s but they have more forces and they are ready to assume that price,» he assured.

MUNITION AND LOGISTICS RACE In this regard, Stoltenberg stressed that military aid to Ukraine must arrive as soon as possible, insisting that the allies must address the urgent needs of Kiev since the speed at which it supplies this material «will save lives».

«We are in a logistics race. Key capabilities such as ammunition, fuel and spare parts must reach Ukraine before Russia can take the initiative on the battlefield,» he said.
