The North Korean government has called on the country’s population to exercise appropriate precautionary measures in view of the «very unstable situation» in the country regarding the spread of coronaviruses and other diseases such as seasonal influenza.
«It seems that even this new year there is still no sign of a resolution of the situation regarding the malignant contagious disease,» North Korea’s official television said in a message carried by the official South Korean news agency Yonhap.
«Instead, it seems to have worsened due to the emergence of variants with immunity evasion capabilities, so the quarantine situation is very unstable,» it said.
It should be recalled that North Korean authorities ordered in late January a five-day confinement for Pyongyang residents starting this Wednesday due to an increase in respiratory illnesses, as reported at the time by the NK News portal.
The North Korean leader, Kim Jong Un, declared victory against the pandemic in August 2022, after a few months that the authorities themselves recognized as complicated and in which they even confirmed the first death due to the coronavirus.
However, Kim also urged the population to wear masks in November, two months after advocating a vaccination campaign aimed at increasing the level of immunization in a country that prevents any hint of external surveillance.
