The President of the European Council, Charles Michel, on Friday denounced the latest wave of Russian bombings against civilian targets in Ukraine, asserting that they are «war crimes» and follow a «terrorist tactic».
«Russia’s indiscriminate attacks on Ukrainian cities are war crimes. This terrorist tactic will not deter Ukraine or its partners,» Michel said in a message on social networks.
In this regard, the former Belgian prime minister has reiterated that EU member states will continue to support Ukraine and «accelerate the provision of military equipment», «including air defenses», a message that comes just a day after the Ukrainian president, Volodimir Zelenski, participated in the European summit in which he reiterated the request for military assistance to the leaders of the EU-27.
Ukrainian authorities have reported a wave of attacks on civilian targets and critical infrastructure in different parts of the country, including the Kiev region. Zelenski has spoken of at least 70 missiles and pointed out that the «massive attack» is «a challenge to NATO, to collective security».
