A group of indigenous teachers gathered this Tuesday in front of the doors of the Congress of the Republic of Colombia, blocking access to the Capitol while extraordinary sessions were being held inside the building.
According to local press reports, the day was disrupted at around 3.30 p.m. (local time), when a group of demonstrators blocked the entrance to the Capitol, located in the Plaza de Bolivar in the capital, Bogota.
The first information suggests that the members of the concentration are indigenous teachers from the department of Valle del Cauca, in western Colombia, who are demanding better health conditions, according to the local newspaper ‘El Tiempo’.
In response, Colombian authorities have closed both the elliptical hall and all access to the interior of Congress. The police have already sent several officers to the site.
