The family of former Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf has confirmed that his remains will be repatriated from Dubai, where he died at the age of 79, in an operation in which the current Government has also offered to collaborate, expressing its condolences for his death.

Musharraf’s remains will be buried in Karachi, according to family sources quoted by Geo News. The family has contacted the Pakistani Consulate in Dubai and a special plane will land in Dubai on Monday morning, although no details of the possible funeral have been released.

A spokeswoman for the Foreign Ministry, Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, confirmed that the authorities are in contact with the late politician’s entourage to «facilitate the transport of the mortal remains».

Among those who have expressed condolences over the death are the current prime minister, Shehbaz Sharif, who offered his condolences to the family on social media. «May his soul rest in peace,» Sharif posted, in a similar vein to that expressed by the president, Arif Alvi.
