Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski warned on Sunday that Russia would be trying to break the front line in Bajmut and Vuhledar in the Donetsk region.
«I held another meeting today at the headquarters. The main topic obviously has been the situation on the frontline, in the Donetsk region and in the south. The situation is very complicated. In Bajmut and Vuhledar there are constant Russian attacks, constant attempts to break through our defenses,» Zelensky explained in a video message posted on social networks.
Zelenski has emphasized that despite «numerous losses» Russian «attacks of great intensity» continue, and has put in value the «extraordinary resistance of Ukrainian defenders». «Every step we prevent the enemy here are tens of unacceptable steps of the occupants in other directions,» he noted.
On the other hand, the Ukrainian Defense Minister, Oleksei Reznikov, insisted on the need for fighter planes and long-range missiles to attack Russian logistics in the rear.
«Last year I wrote a letter to Santa Claus. On the list are still fighter jets and missiles similar to ATACMS with the capability to attack Russian fuel and ammunition depots and also their command posts,» Reznikov said in an interview with CBS.
He also stressed that the battle tanks to be sent by his allies to Ukraine represent a «turning point» in the war. «The HIMARS systems were a turning point in the summer. Tanks will be another turning point and then fighter jets will be another turning point,» he argued.
Reznikov has assured that 2023 will be «the year of victory.» «Our goal is to liberate all occupied territories, but we will see how fast it will be achieved,» he said.
