Japan announced Friday the imposition of new sanctions against 36 individuals and 52 organizations linked to Russia for the invasion of Ukraine by Russian troops due to the prolongation of the war.
The sanctions include asset freezes and export bans on Japanese companies, «in view of the current international situation over Ukraine, and in order to contribute to international efforts to achieve international peace aimed at a settlement of the problem,» the Japanese Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Cabinet Undersecretary Seiji Kihara said that «it is necessary for the international community, including the G7, to unite and respond to the crisis with a decisive resolution» to protect global peace and order.
This announcement comes after the government of Prime Minister Fumio Kishida has decided to put more pressure on Russia, as it chairs the G7, formed by the countries that have led the sanctions against Moscow and aid to Kiev, as reported by the newspaper ‘The Japan Times’.
