The Government of Bolivia has denied Thursday the accusations of the Peruvian Executive accusing a Bolivian indigenous group related to Evo Morales of illegally entering weapons across the border.
After the president of Peru, Dina Boluarte, denounced on Wednesday that the indigenous group Ponchos Rojos (Red Ponchos), linked to the former Bolivian president Evo Morales, is involved in the entry of weapons and ammunition across the border between the two countries, the Bolivian Foreign Ministry has described the accusation as «false», as reported by ABI.
«According to the information we have received from the corresponding authorities, no weapons or ammunition have entered Peruvian territory, we have categorically mentioned this and we have also sent an official note to the Republic of Peru to rule out these possibilities», said the Bolivian Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Freddy Mamani, in a press conference.
In the opinion of the Bolivian government, President Boluarte has received this information «in the heat of the moment, of the conflict». Thus, Manami warned that «such statements damage the relationship we have with Peru».
On Wednesday, Boluarte asked the Peruvian Prosecutor’s Office to investigate «quickly and objectively» the involvement of the Ponchos Rojos, assuring that their weapons would have been used in the clashes that took place on January 9 in the regions of Juliaca and Puno, which resulted in the death of 18 people, reported the newspaper ‘El Deber’.
«We know unofficially that these lethal projectiles, called ‘dum dum’, brought by the Ponchos Rojos, have entered through the border of Peru and Bolivia, that is why I say that the Prosecutor’s Office should investigate objectively and quickly, so that we can all know the truth», said Boluarte.
