Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has applauded Germany’s official approval of sending Leopard tanks to Ukraine as «a big step to stop Russia».
«Together we are stronger,» Morawiecki said on Twitter, in a message in which he thanked German Chancellor Olaf Scholz for the confirmation known on Wednesday.
Scholz’s executive spokesman, Steffen Hebestreit, has explained that Germany will deliver 14 Leopard 2A6s listed in the German Armed Forces’ arsenal, after days of speculation about the position that Berlin would finally adopt.
Poland has also demanded Germany’s approval to send the Leopards in its possession, even threatening to act unilaterally if Scholz did not make up his mind.
