Heavy snowfall has caused several deaths, power outages and transport chaos in countries such as the Czech Republic, Poland and Slovakia.
In Hertvíkovice, Czech Republic, a driver was killed by a tree that fell on his car while he was driving on a rural road, according to the Czech news agency CTK.
Meanwhile, in Wawrzka, southeast of Krakow, Poland, a 70-year-old woman has died due to a lack of electricity to her oxygen machine, Polish news agency PAP has reported. The woman’s relatives alerted health services and firefighters, but the fire truck carrying the oxygen cylinder had an accident on the way due to the storm.
A fatal accident related to bad weather has also been reported in Prague, the Czech capital, reports CTK.
Poland has reported more than 100,000 households without power supply, according to PAP. In most cases the outages are due to trees falling on power lines.
