Zelenski calls for swift international responses against Russia as Moscow takes advantage of «doubts»

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, spoke telematically on Wednesday at the World Economic Forum in Davos (Switzerland), where he articulated a speech based on the need for the international community to act more quickly against Russia, as Moscow is taking advantage of the «doubts» of the West.

«It took Russia less than a second to start a war. It took the world days to impose the first sanctions on it. The time that the free world spends thinking, the terrorist state spends killing», denounced the Ukrainian president during a speech that was preceded by a minute of silence for the death of the Minister of the Interior, Denis Monastirski.

Although Zelenski referred to the tragic helicopter crash that this Wednesday claimed the life of Monastirski and fifteen other people, including children, he did not go into the subject in depth, although he quickly linked it to the Russian attack on a residential building in Dnipro last weekend.

«I ask you to honor the memory of all those lost to Ukraine with a minute’s silence. Just one minute (…) Ukraine is experiencing thousands of such minutes. Among them there are three on January 14. Three minutes is the time it took for a Russian rocket to travel hundreds of kilometers, hit a residential building in Dnipro and kill at least 45 people,» he has said.

After these words, and following his analogy with time and the need to take measures more quickly to help Ukraine to win the war against Russia, Zelenski celebrated that «all» the quick decisions taken by Kiev have had a positive result, alluding at this point to the opening of borders with Europe or the agreement for the export of cereals.

«Not only Ukraine, but the whole world needs exactly this pace of decisions and actions. The world hesitated in 2014, when Russia did not hesitate to occupy Crimea. The world hesitated in 2022, when Russia did not hesitate to launch a full-scale war. The world should not hesitate today and never again,» the Ukrainian president asserted.

It is in this call for speed that Zelensky has insisted that the Russian air strikes must have been preceded by the provision to Ukraine of air defense systems; the invasion of Russian tanks, preceded by the supply of Western battle tanks; and the Russian attack on international security and peace, preceded by the restoration of security and peace in Ukraine.

Finally, Zelenski recalled that in his previous appearance before the Davos Forum he addressed the way in which to put an end to the COVID-19 pandemic, an issue that has now been overcome and, according to his speech, replaced by the concerns generated by Russia and the decisions of its president, Vladimir Putin.

«The world was fighting COVID-19. It fought and won. Now the world is fighting Putin. And three years from now in Davos, we will talk about new challenges and threats. What will this mean? That we will definitely defeat the current threat,» he assured.

«The world has overcome Nazism, apartheid, pandemics, indifference to climate change, financial crises and Kremlin tension. The world will win again (…) But it is time to do it faster», the Ukrainian president concluded.
