The Russian government on Wednesday ruled out negotiations with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky because of his «absurd» proposals to achieve peace after nearly eleven months of a war unleashed on February 24, 2022 on the orders of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
«There can be no talks about negotiations with Zelenski, if only because he has forbidden by law to negotiate with the Russian government. All the Western noise about ‘they are ready,’ is from a malevolent stance,» Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said, Russian news agency TASS reported.
Lavrov stressed that «Zelensky has put forward totally absurd initiatives, such as a ten-point plan, in which food and energy security, biological security, withdrawal of Russian troops from everywhere, Russia’s repentance, an (international) court and condemnations are accumulated.»
«We are ready to respond to serious proposals, but we have not seen them yet. If they come, we will consider them and make a decision,» he said. «We hear chants from Western capitals about ‘not a word about Ukraine without Ukraine’ which are absurd, as the West decides for Ukraine,» he has concluded.
