The President of the European Council, Charles Michel, has expressed his sorrow at the crash of a helicopter near a kindergarten in the Ukrainian city of Brovary, located in the Kiev region, which has left 18 people dead, including the Ukrainian Minister of the Interior, Denis Monastirski, who was on board the helicopter.
«We join Ukraine in grief over the tragic accident in Brovary. Minister Denis Monastirski was a great friend of the EU,» the former Belgian prime minister said in a post on social networks.
Michel sent a message of condolences to the families of the victims and especially to Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski and Prime Minister Denis Shmyhal, as well as to the Ukrainian people.
Among those killed in the accident are three children, in addition to 29 other people who were injured. The head of the Ukrainian police, Igor Klimenko, confirmed that among the victims were senior members of the leadership of the Ministry of the Interior and that the deputy minister and the secretary of state were also killed.
