The Russian Defense Ministry has assured Friday that its troops have controlled since Thursday evening the Ukrainian town of Soledar, located in the Donetsk region and the object of intense fighting in recent days, during which the parties to the conflict have offered contradictory versions of what was happening.

The Wagner Group, an alliance of mercenaries linked to the Kremlin, had already considered Soledar taken a few days ago, but Moscow had been more cautious and Kiev had directly denied the loss of the locality, where satellite images already show the effects of the destruction.

The Russian Defense Ministry spokesman, Igor Konashenkov, has stated that the «liberation» was «completed» in the last hours, a step he considers «important» to continue advancing towards other areas of Donetsk, according to the Interfax news agency.

In this sense, he has affirmed that these advances allow blocking supply routes to other areas, such as Bakhmut, and has estimated that more than 700 Ukrainian military personnel have lost their lives in the battle for Soledar, a figure that the Ukrainian authorities do not confirm.
