South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol said Wednesday that his government should consider suspending the Comprehensive Military Agreement signed with North Korea in 2018 to reduce tension on the peninsula.
«If North Korea makes another provocation by invading our territory, consider suspending the military agreement,» Yoon said, in remarks reported by Yonhap News Agency, after a closed-door meeting with the Defense Ministry and the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
The South Korean leader’s office has already indicated on previous occasions that the inter-Korean agreement could come to an end in the face of Pyongyang’s numerous ballistic tests, which have led to the escalation of tensions in the region in recent months.
Yoon has also ordered Defense to «create a joint drone unit to perform multipurpose missions such as surveillance and reconnaissance.»
