
Ruslan Khasbulatov, the last chairman of Russia’s Supreme Soviet, died Tuesday at the age of 80, Russian media announced.
Khasbulatov, who died at his home on the outskirts of Moscow, will be buried Thursday in his hometown of Tolstoy Yurt in Chechnya, Tass news agency has learned.
«I spoke today with my closest relatives. Most likely, tomorrow they will all come to Chechnya, where a funeral will be held in the village of Khabuslatov in accordance with Chechen traditions,» a person connected with the politician’s family told Interfax news agency.
The then politician – an ally of former Russian President Boris Yeltsin at first – who was born in 1942, served as speaker of the Russian Parliament from 1991 to 1993.
