
The Turkish authorities have arrested on Tuesday in Istanbul an alleged member of the Islamic State jihadist group who was planning an attack in the city against tourists, without at the moment has transcended his identity or nationality.
According to information gathered by the Turkish state news agency, Anatolia, the man had been followed following data collected by the intelligence agency, which located threatening videos posted by the suspect.
During the raid, security forces seized bladed weapons and documents containing the suspect’s plans for his attack, which would target tourists or tourist sites in Turkey.
Turkish authorities have carried out dozens of operations against the group over the past few years and in June 2021 announced the arrest of a senior Islamic State official considered to be responsible for the jihadist group’s activities in the country as part of an operation carried out by Intelligence services in Syria.
