British authorities on Monday launched a five-week training program for inexperienced Ukrainian soldiers in the midst of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
«The program for Ukrainian recruits, which takes place on British soil, will provide soldiers with combat skills to survive and be effective on the front lines,» the Ukrainian Armed Forces said in a message on its Facebook page.
The Ukrainian forces explained that this will enable the recruits to «defend their homeland from Russian aggression» as the training provides for inexperienced soldiers to test what they have learned in recent weeks.»
The UK has given Ukraine £2.3 billion in military aid, including anti-tank missiles, missile launchers, armed vehicles, artillery, ammunition, explosives and weapons, among others.
In total, the British Army has trained some 22,000 Ukrainian military personnel since 2015, a year after Russia annexed the Crimean peninsula.
