Russia’s ambassador to the United States Anatoli Antonov argued Wednesday that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s trip to Washington shows that Kiev «is not ready for peace.»
«Zelenski’s visit to the US capital, talks in Washington showed that neither the administration nor Zelenski are ready for peace. The focus is on the war, on the death of ordinary soldiers, on further linking the Ukrainian regime to Washington’s needs,» he noted.
In this line, he criticized that the statements in the US media that Russia «is not interested in achieving peace are a blatant lie», since the Russian position «was repeatedly expressed by the Russian president (Vladimir Putin).
«A Hollywood-style trip to Washington by the head of the Keiv regime has finally confirmed that the administration’s conciliatory statements about the lack of intention to enter into a confrontation with Russia are an empty phrase,» he said, speaking to reporters.
«What was essentially announced amid applause and sarcastic smiles was the need to continue the ‘proxy war’ against our country. Until a complete victory over us,» he has criticized, according to a statement from the diplomatic headquarters in the United States.
Thus, he has denounced the military and financial aid provided to Kiev. «Enormous resources, weapons, intelligence capabilities are thrown in. The maniacal idea of ‘victory over the Russians on the battlefield’ is brought to the forefront,» he said.
Antonov has emphasized that Moscow has «repeatedly (…) tried (…) to appeal to common sense at all levels.» «It was stressed that the provocative actions of the United States constantly lead to escalation, the consequences of which cannot even be imagined,» he has warned.
In addition, the Russian diplomat has noted that «the United States is fully responsible for triggering the Ukrainian conflict in 2014».
