The United States has asked Peru’s president, Dina Boluarte, that the country’s authorities make the «necessary reforms» to protect the country’s stability.
The Secretary of the State Department, Antony Blinken, transmitted this request to the Peruvian president during a telephone conversation they had this Friday.
Blinken would have «encouraged Peru’s institutions and civilian authorities to redouble their efforts to carry out the necessary reforms and safeguard democratic stability,» according to the Department’s spokesman, Ned Price, in a press release.
He also urged a «constructive dialogue» among political and social actors «to alleviate political divisions and focus on reconciliation», while pointing out that Washington will collaborate with Boluarte to improve «shared values».
«The United States looks forward to working closely with President Boluarte on shared goals and values related to democracy, human rights, security, anti-corruption and economic prosperity,» the letter reads.
The Peruvian president thanked Blinken on Friday for her support to the Peruvian government, as well as her willingness to nurture the relationship between the two countries.
«The President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte, had a telephone conversation with the U.S. Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, who reiterated the support of the United States to the Government she leads,» said the Peruvian Presidency in a message on the social network Twitter.
«Blinken has said that Peru is an important ally of the United States and has offered to continue supporting the democratic institutional process,» reads a statement released by the Peruvian Foreign Ministry.
