The Russian Defense Ministry reported Sunday the seizure of the town of Mayorsk in Ukraine’s Donetsk region, the day after the full Russian withdrawal from the town of Kherson.
«As a result of successful offensive operations by Russian troops, the town of Mayorsk has been completely liberated in the Donetsk direction,» Russian Defense Ministry spokesman General Igor Konashenkov has explained, quoted by the Russian news agency TASS.
In this Russian advance, «enemy» troops and equipment have been «eliminated», the general said.
Mayorsk is located on the outskirts of the town of Horlivka, also known as Gorlovka, north of the provincial capital Donetsk.
In the same area, Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski had reported heavy fighting on Saturday. «It is hell,» he said in a message in which he celebrated the capture of the town of Kherson following the Russian withdrawal after eight months of occupation.
