Iranian Foreign Minister Hosein Amirabdolahian has criticized the «self-serving» stance of some European countries regarding the protests in Iran in recent weeks during a call with Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares.

He specifically lamented that there are countries that «act in a self-serving manner instead of defending the national interest of their countries» in the conversation, held on Friday, according to the Iranian state television channel Press TV.

He mentioned the «unconstructive» stance of some Western countries regarding the protests and the «terrorist attacks» perpetrated in Iran.

On the other hand, Amirabdolahian highlighted Spain’s condemnation of the recent attack perpetrated on October 26 against the Shah Cheragh mosque, in the city of Shiraz, which left fifteen dead and dozens wounded.

The head of Iranian diplomacy has also referred to the negotiations to try to recover the 2015 nuclear agreement. «We always want to talk to Europe despite the fact that three countries such as Germany, France and the United Kingdom have not been able to implement the nuclear agreement since 2018,» he reproached.

«It is an international obligation after the imposition of sanctions by the administration of (former US President Donald) Trump,» he pointed out.

Both Amirabdolahian and Albares have highlighted the «historic» relations between the two countries. The Iranian official also called for the expansion of relations between Tehran and Madrid, while Albares stressed the need to promote dialogue, according to Iranian Press TV.
